Aviation Sans Frontières, or Aviation Without Borders, is hosting an auction during the Paris Air Show featuring rare and historical aviation-related items to raise money for the organization’s humanitarian missions and projects.
Numerous artists, celebrities, athletes and companies have come together to offer unique experiences and items for the auction.
Specifically, proceeds will raise money for a project to create a hospital aircraft designed to deploy a miniature hospital to the most remote areas of the world, the organization says. Aviation Without Borders will present the project during the Paris Air Show, which runs June 16-22 at Le Bourget Airport in Paris. The auction, scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, will be held at Artcurial, 7 rond-point, des Champs Elysees Marcel-Dassault in Paris.
Items to be auctioned include John Travolta’s Quantas airline pilot uniform and cap signed by the Hollywood actor and pilot; a limited edition Breitling Pilot model watch accompanied by an exclusive visit to the Swiss manufacturing company; a weightless flight on board the Airbus Zero G; a T-shirt worn by French astronaut Thomas Pesquet during a mission; a Messerschmitt KR200 used by Coluche during his 1981 presidential campaign; a pilot’s helmet from the Patrouille de France; and other items and experiences.
Founded in 1980, about 800 volunteers respond to about 20 requests a day for emergency aid and other humanitarian services, an apolitical, independent organization, the group says.
Aviation Without Borders conducts emergency medical evacuations, transports humanitarian personnel and freight, provides support for sick children and trains young people through programs such as Wings of the Future. It also collaborates with other organizations, such as the World Food Program, the Red Cross and Handicap International.
