Qatar Airways will initially fly its new QSuite Next Gen business-class product on a planned fleet of Boeing 777X aircraft, followed by the Airbus A350, the airline said July 22.
The airline has outstanding orders for 77 777Xs, as well as 18 A350-1000s.
The airline plans to install the new product when the first 777Xs start to arrive, currently scheduled for Q4 2025. The new suite will also be installed in those outstanding aircraft of the airline’s current order for Airbus A350s. The company is “exploring” the possibility of retrofitting it to current aircraft.
Unveiling the QSuite Next Gen, Qatar Airways’ group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said that the company’s focus for many years had been customer experience and customer satisfaction. Those factors had been a key pillar for Qatar Airways. “We’ve been able to elevate the bar,” he said.
The new suite will have wider seats, convert into a longer lie-flat bed with higher walls to give greater privacy, Qatar Airways SVP product development Xia Cai said.
The new suite has been under development for around four years. It will have Starlink Wi-Fi, while the airline’s Oryx entertainment system will also undergo a revamp in 2025.
Asked if she envisaged supply chain problems when installing the new suite, Xia accepted that it was a challenge, but was confident they would appear on schedule, adding, “We work really closely with the suppliers.”
The new suite’s seats are being made by Adient to a proprietary Qatar Airways’ design. The first-generation seat was made by Collins.
