STATISTICS SPOTLIGHT: Top 50 Airlines - August 2013

Every month The HUB is providing statistics highlighting global airline and airport activity. Alongside detailing the top 50 airlines and airports each month by available seat capacity we look at how these figures compare with the same month the previous year and in 2010, showing which airlines and airports are growing and which are constraining. The data is extracted from SRS Analyser and is based on uploaded schedules as at August 1, 2013.

There have been two changes in the top ten since last month’s analysis as the growth of the Chinese market continues. China Southern Airlines has overtaken US majors United Airlines and American Airlines in available schedule capacity and moved up from sixth to fourth place in the analysis, while Air China has switched places with US Airways and moved from tenth to ninth.

Outside of the top ten largest carriers the biggest climber compared with our July 2013 analysis was Scandinavian Airlines which moved from 40th to 30th thanks to the introduction of seasonal services. The main fallers were Italian flag carrier Alitalia, which slipped from 32nd to 36th and Saudia, which fell from 29th to 35th.
