Saudi Arabian flag-carrier Saudia has filed plans to begin flying to a second city in Bangladesh, alongside the country’s capital Dhaka.
The airline has scheduled the launch of service connecting Jeddah and Chittagong, a large port city on the southeastern coast of Bangladesh home to more than 5 million inhabitants.
According to OAG Schedules Analyser, operations between Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) and Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP) will begin on March 1, operating four times per week using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
While reservations are currently unavailable, the service will become Saudia’s fourth to Bangladesh if the 3,354-mi. (2,915-nm) route launches as scheduled. Flights are currently offered to Dhaka from Jeddah, Madinah and Riyadh.
Saudia will join Biman Bangladesh Airlines in serving the Jeddah-Chittagong market. Biman provides three roundtrips per week between the destinations at present using Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The carrier also connects Madinah and Chittagong once a week onboard 787-8s.
Alongside the proposed Chittagong route, Saudia has outlined further changes to its network for the northern summer 2024 season. Flights between Riyadh and Barcelona are scheduled to resume on June 7, operating 2X-weekly using 787-9s, after a hiatus since August 2022. Additionally, frequencies between Jeddah and London Gatwick Airport will rise from four to five times per week between April 8 and May 14.
