Aug. 28

Ryanair will extend its Friedrichshafen, Germany, to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, service to operate year-round, making flights between the destinations available during the winter season for the first time. The new winter service complements Ryanair’s existing Alicante route from Friedrichshafen. Airport CEO Jochen Krumm says the move reflects growing confidence in the German airport’s potential.

Emirates plans to deploy Airbus A350 aircraft on its Dubai-Kuala Lumpur route from Sept. 1, operating flights EK344/345 and expanding the airline’s premium economy offering in the Malaysian capital to 52 seats daily. The A350 will complement the retrofitted Boeing 777 operating flights EK346/347, while Kuala Lumpur will also continue to receive A380 service.

Thai AirAsia will increase domestic capacity by more than 50% for the fourth quarter of 2026, raising operations to up to 135 flights per day from October as it responds to stronger demand during Thailand’s peak travel season. From Oct. 1, the airline will operate domestic services from Bangkok Don Mueang to 22 destinations and from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Chiang Mai, Krabi and Phuket. Thai AirAsia will also launch new cross-regional routes from Phuket to Khon Kaen (up to 3X-weekly) and Udon Thani (up to 4X-weekly) from Oct. 25.

Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia have signed a new air services agreement that expands the number of permitted scheduled flights between the two countries from 28 to 70 per week. The agreement, signed in Riyadh, also paves the way for airlines to launch nonstop Astana-Riyadh services and increase flights to other Saudi Arabian cities.

Aug. 27 

Germany’s Discover Airlines plans to add three new UK destinations to its summer 2027 network, launching services from Frankfurt to Bristol, Glasgow and Inverness, while also introducing flights between Munich and Glasgow. The airline will begin up to 6X-weekly Frankfurt-Glasgow service from March 29, followed by 2X-weekly Munich-Glasgow flights from May 16. A 2X-weekly Frankfurt-Bristol service will launch on May 17, and weekly Frankfurt-Inverness flights will begin on June 19. “We see a clear trend toward nature, outdoor activities and trips that combine culture and scenery—our three new destinations fit this trend perfectly,” CCO Marco Götz says.

Canadian carrier Porter Airlines will launch services from London, Ontario, for the first time, introducing seasonal nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Cancun and Montego Bay beginning in November and December 2026. The airline also plans to establish a year-round domestic network from London by summer 2027, with destinations to be announced later. The winter schedule includes 4X-weekly service to Fort Lauderdale from Nov. 18, 3X-weekly flights to Orlando from Nov. 19, 4X-weekly service to Cancun from Dec. 17, and 2X-weekly flights to Montego Bay from Dec. 18. All routes will be operated using 132-seat Embraer 195-E2 aircraft. “For years, our region has been underserved when it comes to air service, with residents and businesses often traveling outside the region to access the connectivity they need,” London International Airport CEO Scott McFadzean says. “Porter's commitment to London is a strong vote of confidence in the strength of our market, our growing economy and the people who call this region home.”

Panama’s Copa Airlines has applied to Colombia’s Aerocivil for permission to launch service between Panama City and Monteria. If approved, Monteria would become the carrier’s 11th destination in Colombia. According to OAG Schedules Analyser data, the route is currently unserved.

Air India and Drukair have launched an interline partnership designed to improve connectivity between India and Bhutan and provide onward connections across their respective networks. The agreement allows passengers to travel on a single ticket combining flights operated by the two airlines, with through baggage and passenger transfers. Air India passengers will be able to connect via New Delhi to Drukair services to Paro, with onward connections to Bumthang, Gelephu and Yonphula. Drukair passengers will gain access via New Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata to Air India’s domestic and international network, including destinations in Europe, North America and Australia.

Air Arabia will launch daily nonstop service between Sharjah and Dusseldorf on Dec. 16, expanding its Germany network to three destinations. The route will be operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft. Dusseldorf joins Frankfurt and Munich as Air Arabia's German destinations from Sharjah. “The launch of our new daily service to Dusseldorf marks another important milestone in the expansion of our European network and further strengthens connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Germany,” Air Arabia Group CEO Adel Al Ali says.

Delta Air Lines plans to resume daily nonstop service between New York John F. Kennedy and Tel Aviv from Sept. 6. The route will be operated using an Airbus A330-900neo. Delta says it will continue to monitor the security environment in coordination with aviation authorities and government agencies.

Syrian Airlines intends to commence nonstop services from Damascus to Vienna and Copenhagen on Sept. 21. Syrian authorities say additional international destinations will be announced in the coming months as part of broader efforts to expand the national carrier's network, attract more foreign airlines to serve Syria and upgrade the country's airport infrastructure to support increased air traffic.

Aug. 26 

Air Arabia plans to expand its Poland network with the launch of 5X-weekly nonstop service between Sharjah and Gdansk from Dec. 14. Gdansk will become the LCC’s fourth destination in Poland, joining Warsaw Chopin, Krakow and Katowice, the latter of which is due to launch in December. The carrier says the new route will support growing tourism, business and economic ties between the UAE and Poland. The service also expands Air Arabia’s European network from Sharjah, which now includes 11 destinations.

Avianca will gradually restore flights to Pereira, Colombia, following the reopening of Matecana International Airport, resuming services from Bogota on Aug. 26 and Medellin on Aug. 27. The airline will initially operate 4X-daily flights—three from Bogota and one from Medellin—before progressively increasing to 10X-daily flights, comprising eight from Bogota and two from Medellin, as the airport returns to full operational capacity. The resumption follows Colombia’s civil aviation authority certifying the airport’s technical and safety conditions after disruption caused by the recent earthquake.

Asiana Airlines will continue operating flights between Seoul Incheon and Kobe, Japan, during the winter 2026-27 season, with services resuming on Oct. 25. The route, operated using Airbus A321neo aircraft, follows the launch of international charter operations at Kobe Airport after the opening of Terminal 2 in April 2025.

Finnair is suspending flights between Helsinki and Dubai for the winter 2026-27 season, from Oct. 25 through March 27, 2027, citing the continuing unstable security situation in the Middle East. The airline says affected passengers will be offered alternative itineraries where available, free date changes within 14 days of their original travel date, or refunds. Finnair adds that it continues to monitor the regional security situation and may adjust operations further if required.

Aug. 25

Korean Air will launch daily service between Seoul Incheon and Hiroshima, Japan, on Dec. 23. The route will be operated using Airbus A321neo aircraft. The new service builds on Korean Air's recent expansion in regional Japan, including increased frequencies to Aomori and Okayama, as well as existing daily flights to Niigata and Komatsu. Beyond its tourism appeal, Hiroshima is a major industrial hub, home to Mazda's headquarters and major operations for Micron Technology, JFE Steel and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. High-speed Sanyo Shinkansen services also provide access to destinations across western Japan.

Chile’s Sky Airline has unveiled several network additions for late 2026 and early 2027, including new international routes from Santiago to Lima, Rio de Janeiro and Cusco, alongside the resumption of Santiago-Salvador service. The carrier will launch daily flights from Santiago to Rio de Janeiro on Dec. 28, followed by daily service to Cusco on Jan. 3, 2027. Sky also plans to introduce a new Santiago-Lima route, launch Temuco-Balmaceda service and resume daily Lima-Puerto Maldonado flights from March 1.

Spanish LCC Vueling is set to end operations to Cardiff Airport, Wales, this autumn, with 2X-weekly Malaga flights scheduled to end on Oct. 22 and 3X-weekly Alicante service to cease on Oct. 24. The withdrawal will leave Vueling without any routes to Cardiff. The airline says it continually reviews its network to match demand and has not ruled out returning in the future. Alicante will continue to be served from Cardiff by TUI and Ryanair during the winter season.

Jetstar has inaugurated 3X-weekly year-round service between Melbourne and Colombo, becoming the airline’s first nonstop flights between Australia and Sri Lanka. The route adds more than 100,000 annual seats and is operated by Boeing 787 aircraft. Jetstar says initial demand has been strong, supported by Victoria's large Sri Lankan community, while Melbourne Airport says the service strengthens tourism, trade and VFR links between the two countries. “This direct service is about connecting people, not just places, with more than 50% of Sri Lankan-born Australian residents calling Victoria home,” Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus says. 

Israir Airlines has received approval from the FAA to operate flights to the U.S., completing the regulatory approvals required in both Israel and the U.S. to launch North American services. The carrier said in January it expects to serve New York and Miami from Tel Aviv using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Aug. 24

Thai Airways plans to resume Bangkok Suvarnabhumi-Auckland service in March 2027, restoring nonstop air links between Thailand and New Zealand for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The carrier last operated the route on a regular scheduled basis in March 2020, flying daily using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The planned relaunch was announced as Thailand and New Zealand elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership during Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's official visit to New Zealand.

Oman’s SalamAir will launch 2X-weekly nonstop service between Muscat and Erbil on Oct. 25, making Erbil its second destination in Iraq after Baghdad. The new route will expand SalamAir’s presence in Iraq and target business, trade, VFR and leisure demand between Oman and the Kurdistan Region. The carrier also plans to offer onward connections via Muscat to destinations across the Indian subcontinent and Asia. The move comes less than a week after the LCC announced the appointment of Yaqoob bin Saif bin Hamoud Al Kiyumi as its new CEO.

Starlux Airlines will commence nonstop services from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to Osaka Kobe and Okinawa in Japan. Flights will be daily from Jan. 1, 2027, coinciding with the opening of its new Kaohsiung base. The additions will expand Starlux’s Japan network from southern Taiwan and provide more nonstop options from the new base. According to OAG Schedules Analyser data, the airline currently offers 17 nonstop routes to Japan, including services to Osaka Kobe and Okinawa from both Taipei Taiwan Taoyuan and Taichung.

Fly Jinnah will launch 3X-weekly nonstop service between Karachi, Pakistan, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sept. 18, increasing the route to daily from October. Riyadh will become the airline’s third destination in Saudi Arabia from Karachi, alongside Dammam and Jeddah. Fly Jinnah says the new service is aimed at growing demand from business travelers and expatriates. The route will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft. The carrier also serves Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam from Islamabad and Lahore.
