Routes Europe 2026 Award Winners

Rimini, Italy—Prague Airport (PRG) has been named the Overall Winner at the Routes Europe 2026 Awards, while also triumphing in the 5-20 Million Passengers category.

The Czech airport was one of five winners recognized at the event, which celebrates excellence in airport and destination marketing. Other winners at the ceremony—held on May 19 during Routes Europe 2026 in Rimini, Italy—were Florence Airport (FLR), Athens International Airport (ATH) and Canary Islands Tourist Board – Promotur. Jet2.com also won the Airline award for a third consecutive year.

“In the highly competitive environment of European airports, this award represents a significant achievement that we greatly value,” said Jiri Vyskoc, Executive Director of Aviation Business Development at Prague Airport.

“We see it as confirmation of our long-term strategy, which is based on fair and open cooperation with our partners, as well as the active pursuit of attractive business opportunities in air service development. We are focused not only on launching new destinations, but also on increasing seat capacity and flight frequencies on existing routes, thereby strengthening the accessibility and long-term competitiveness of our airport.”

Prague Airport, which also won the 10-20 Million Passengers category at Routes World 2025, delivered strong growth and network expansion in 2025, handling 17.8 million passengers, a rise of 8.5% compared with 2024. The airport supported the launch of 46 new routes, including 24 new destinations, and welcomed 12 new airlines, while more than 55 existing routes saw frequency or capacity increases, adding nearly 1.5 million seats.

Long-haul growth remained a priority, with new services to Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Toronto and Sharjah, alongside the launch of Taipei service by Starlux Airlines—its first European destination—and American Airlines’ planned addition of Philadelphia in 2026.

In the Under 5 Million Passengers category, Florence Airport was named the winner. The airport handled 3.8 million passengers in 2025, up 9.4% year-on-year, supported by 20 airlines serving 40 destinations. Two new airline partners were secured—Air Corsica and Air Serbia—alongside new routes to destinations including Alghero, Belgrade, Brussels, Elba Island and Nice.

Athens International Airport claimed the award in the Over 20 Million Passengers category, repeating its success from Routes World 2025. The airport handled 34 million passengers in 2025, up 6.7% year-on-year. A total of 21 airlines—nine of them new to the market—launched services, adding 29 new destinations. A further 20 frequency increases and service additions on existing routes strengthened the network.

The Destination award went to Canary Islands Tourist Board – Promotur, recognized for its role in strengthening the Spanish archipelago’s air connectivity through a long-term, data-driven route development strategy. The destination has expanded seat capacity by 33.6% compared with 2019, adding more than 6 million arrival seats, while passenger traffic has increased 24.3%.

Jet2.com won the Airline category, securing its third consecutive victory. The UK leisure carrier has continued expanding its network through sustained capacity growth, new base development and close collaboration with airports and tourism partners. The airline now operates more than 650 routes from 14 UK bases to over 80 destinations, boosted by base openings at Bournemouth and London Gatwick.

Finalists in the Airport and Destination categories were reviewed and scored by a panel of airline judges, while the Airline category was judged by a panel of editorial judges.
