Philippine Airlines (PAL) will open nonstop service between Manila International Airport (MNL) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in October, adding a new international destination for both markets.
PAL plans to operate the exclusive route with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, flying the service 3X-weekly starting Oct. 2. SEA will mark the sixth U.S. destination in PAL’s network, which already includes Guam, Los Angeles, New York John F. Kennedy, San Francisco and Honolulu. The carrier also serves Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Vancouver, Canada.
PAL described Seattle in a statement as a “high-tech business hub and thriving port city,” as well as a “gateway to various population centers in the states of Washington and Oregon.”
The airline said the flights “also provide connectivity via Manila to PAL’s extensive domestic and regional international network, including cities such as Cebu [and] Davao [in the Philippines], Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.”
Port of Seattle Commission Vice President Toshiko Hasegawa said Washington state is home to the U.S.’s fourth-largest Filipino population, adding: “Nonstop service to Manila has long been one of our most frequently requested routes.”
PAL said the MNL-SEA route will offer 60 tons of weekly cargo capacity between the cities.
“PAL is the first carrier to link the Philippines and the U.S. Pacific Northwest region with direct flights that will help stimulate business and leisure travel of U.S. residents to the Philippines,” PAL said. “Over 900,000 Americans visited the Philippines in 2023, making the U.S. the country’s second-largest source of tourists.”
SEA noted PAL’s flights to and from MNL will be another in a string of new international services announced by airlines so far in 2024. In May, Alaska Airlines will open flights to YYZ, and Lufthansa will offer Munich service. Taiwanese carriers China Airlines and Starlux Airlines, as well as Delta Air Lines, will commence flights between SEA and Taipei over the northern hemisphere summer months.
