EWR’s new Terminal A was part of a $2.7 billion Terminal Redevelopment Program to modernize and replace Terminal A, provide associated roadway and airside improvements, and a new parking garage. 
 

The new 1 million sq. ft. Terminal A has 33 gates.
 

Air Canada also uses the terminal for its flights to six Canadian destinations. Other airlines include Dallas/Fort Worth-based American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines. 
 

JetBlue uses the facility, operating flights to 13 year-round destinations with four additional seasonal services. New York-based JetBlue joins American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines that also use Terminal A. 
 

Chicago-based United Airlines operates some domestic flights out of Terminal A, along with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways.

The new terminal is welcoming. Its three concourses extend in opposite directions from the central atrium, and gates are less than a 10-minute walk from the primary security checkpoint. 
 

Terminal A initially opened in January 2023 with 21 gates in operation and has been adding more gates since, climbing to 33 gates in August when Delta Air Lines joined Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines as operators in Terminal A.
 

As of mid-August, the Port Authority said the terminal has served over 9 million passengers and is on target to welcome the 10-millionth passenger in mid-September 2023.
 

Delta Air Lines relocated operations at EWR from Terminal B to Terminal A on Aug. 23, 2023, completing the full opening of the new terminal. Delta VP-East Coast Airport Operations Ginny Elliot said the Atlanta-based airline’s “move to the transformed and modernized Terminal A helps us further enhance the travel journey for our Newark customers for years to come.”

Delta Air Lines in August 2023 opened its 7,000-sq.-ft. Sky Club lounge in EWR’s newly opened Terminal A—the Atlanta-based carrier’s new home. The new space seats more than 200 guests and includes elevated views of the terminal and airfield. The lounge, which reflects the city’s industrial past, features acoustic systems designed to absorb outside sounds, providing visitors with a quiet refuge inside the bustling terminal.
