Enugu Air, the Nigerian regional carrier owned by Enugu state, began its first international service on Sept. 23, with a direct route linking Enugu and Douala, Cameroon's port city.
The airline will operate two flights a week on the route using a 76-seat Embraer 170.
Enugu Air said in a statement that stronger air links mean “easier access to regional markets, more opportunities for trade and investment, and room for tourism to grow.”
The route also strengthens the position of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, also known as Enugu Airport, as a regional gateway.
The launch forms part of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah's broader vision of a more connected and competitive Enugu, “better placed to attract investors and businesses from across Nigeria and beyond.”
“Enugu Air was a major commitment of this administration, and I am proud to see us mark another milestone in its delivery with the inaugural regional flight from Enugu to Douala, Cameroon,” he said.
“Going forward, Enugu Air will be a proud ambassador of Enugu state across Africa, connecting our people to new opportunities and bringing our state closer to the continent,” Mbah added.
The airline started operations in 2025. According to CAPA Fleet Database, Enugu Air has six aircraft in service: one Bombardier CRJ100, one E170, one E190 and three E195s.
Back in February, Mbah said the carrier was planning rapid expansion through 2026, with as many as 20 aircraft penciled in for its fleet by the end of the year.
