U.S. carrier Breeze Airways unveiled San Jose, Costa Rica, as its fifth scheduled international destination, with flights from Tampa slated to begin in October.
The airline, which earlier this year started operating its first scheduled international flights, will open service between Tampa International Airport (TPA) and San Jose’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) on Oct. 3. The route will be flown 2X-weekly.
TPA CEO Michael Stephens noted this will be the first time the Florida airport is connected nonstop to SJO in more than 25 years. The Costa Rican capital will be the third international destination Breeze will open from TPA this year.
The carrier also announced it will start service between TPA and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from July 2. Flights on the route—which is flown seasonally by both JetBlue Airways and Frontier Airlines—will be operated by Breeze 2X-weekly.
Breeze previously revealed plans to begin 2X-weekly flights between TPA and Nassau, Bahamas, from June 11. The airline will be the first carrier flying between TPA and Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport in more than 20 years.
Breeze also operates to Cancun, Mexico, from multiple U.S. cities. It plans to start service to Montego Bay from both Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina and TPA, but the launch of both routes—originally scheduled for the first quarter—has been pushed back to later this year as Jamaica recovers from Hurricane Melissa, which devastated the island nation in October 2025.
All of Breeze’s international services are flown with Airbus A220-300 aircraft configured to carry 137 passengers.
Breeze, founded by CEO David Neeleman, was launched in 2021 and has built up a domestic network of more than 80 destinations, around 85% of which are exclusive to the airline. The Utah-based carrier received a U.S. flag carrier certificate from the FAA in September 2025.
Breeze’s first international route kicked off between Norfolk, Virginia, and Cancun International Airport (CUN) in January. Launches to CUN followed from Charleston, South Carolina (Jan. 17); New Orleans (Feb. 7); and Providence, Rhode Island (Feb. 14). All four routes are operated on a seasonal basis once a week on Saturdays.
Breeze additionally launched 2X-weekly flights between RDU and Punta Cana in March.
