Bahrain Airport Company Appoints Janahi As New CEO

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), operator of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), has appointed Ahmed Mohamed Janahi as CEO, effective Aug. 2.

BAC said Janahi will work alongside the Board of Directors, BAC’s team and its partners to build on the company’s achievements, strengthen safety and operational efficiency and enhance passenger experience. He will also support the implementation of Bahrain’s National Aviation Strategy, the road map aimed at expanding the Kingdom’s air network.

Janahi joined BAC in 2021, having previously held several senior leadership positions within the company, including acting CEO and chief airport operations officer. Before joining BAC, Janahi held key leadership roles at Oman Air and Gulf Air.

BAC has managed and operated Muscat-based Bahrain International Airport, the hub of national carrier Gulf Air, since 2010.

The appointment comes as BIA works to recover capacity lost over the past year. According to OAG data, the airport’s August 2026 capacity sits 14.8% below August 2025 and 13.5% below January 2026, though it has been climbing steadily since April’s trough (5,222 seats/day) to reach 16,770 seats/day. Destination count has held steady at 57, but the number of airlines serving the airport has fallen from 27 to 21.

Gulf Air continues to dominate the market, holding a 75.1% share with 390,452 seats—barely down on last year (-1.3%). Its market share has jumped from 64.8% largely because other carriers have shrunk more sharply. The remaining airlines serving BIA—FlyDubai, Air Arabia, IndiGo, Air India Express, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and Etihad—collectively offer 129,418 seats—down 39.7% from 214,746 a year earlier.
