American Airlines started operating three more routes to Cancun International Airport (CUN) on Dec. 9, bringing to 18 the number of routes it is offering between the U.S. and the popular Mexico vacation destination for the 2023-24 northern hemisphere winter season.

The airline says it is flying 40 peak-day flights between the U.S. and CUN on its winter schedule running through March 2024.

American commenced 2X-weekly service to CUN from both Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Nashville International Airport (BNA), Tennessee. It also kicked off once-weekly service between Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and CUN.

PIT says the route will be flown on Saturdays with an Airbus A321 aircraft. American previously served CUN from PIT, but has not flown the route since 2018.

All three routes are seasonal, ending in March 2024.

BNA, CVG and PIT join 15 U.S. airports from which American will fly to Cancun during the winter season: Austin, Texas; Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT); Chicago O’Hare; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW); Indianapolis, Indiana; Kansas City and St. Louis in Missouri; Los Angeles; Miami (MIA); New York John F. Kennedy; Philadelphia; Phoenix; and Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina.

Meanwhile, American will launch flights in March 2024 to Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO)—the new airport in Tulum, Mexico, set to open in December 2023. TQO is located about 85 mi. south of Cancun. The airline will offer year-round service to TQO from CLT (1X-daily), DFW (2X-daily) and MIA (1X-daily).

American says it operates “more flights than any other U.S. carrier to the white-sand beaches, impressive archaeological sites and vibrant culture of Cancun, Mexico.”
