Allegiant Air Brings Las Vegas Link to Owensboro

Allegiant Air is to introduce a twice weekly flight to Las Vegas from Owensboro Daviess County Airport adding to its existing link to Orlando Sanford International. The new service will be launched on October 14 and will be operated by a 150-seat McDonnell Douglas MD-80. Allegiant Air has been the main operator from the Kentucky airport since it inaugurated flights in February 2009, although Pacific Wings is also currently operating an Essential Air Services route to Nashville, albeit this will terminate at the end of September.

“This additional air service announcement represents Allegiant’s confidence in the Western Kentucky, Southern Indiana market—a confidence that stems from the community’s overwhelming response to Allegiant’s Orlando flights over the last 2 ½ years,” said Bob Whitmer, Director, Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport. “I expect the number of passengers passing through the Owensboro-Daviess County Airport to double over the next year.”

Allegiant Air carried an estimated 33,000 O&D passengers on its twice weekly flights between Owensboro and Las Vegas and is hopeful if similar success with the new service to Las Vegas.
