Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) in Australia contracted McNab to handle construction for its A$170 million ($110 million) terminal redevelopment project. MCY Chair David Ryan said Australian firm McNab has a “proven track record of delivering high-quality projects in our region.” The airport said the redeveloped terminal “will be delivered in stages to minimize disruption to passengers and ensure continuity of operations.” The outbound checked baggage handling facility is scheduled to be completed in early 2026. The full terminal expansion is slated to be finished in 2027. The terminal size will nearly double to 11,750 m² (126,476 ft.²). Two gates will be added, bringing MCY’s total gates to seven. The airport said it expects to handle 1.8 million passengers in 2026, growing to 2.4 million passengers in 2030. MCY is served by five airlines, including Air New Zealand, Alliance, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia. The airport is connected nonstop to Auckland and four domestic cities, including Adelaide, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.
San Diego International Airport (SAN) CEO Kimberly Becker announced she will retire in March 2026. Becker has been SAN’s top official since May 2017. Her decision to retire follows the September opening of SAN’s new $3.8 billion Terminal 1, the largest infrastructure project overseen by Becker during her tenure. Before taking over as SAN’s CEO, she served as San Jose Mineta International Airport’s director. SAN said it will conduct a global search for a new CEO. The airport handled 24.2 million passengers in 2024, its highest-ever annual number.
Fuel supplier Moeve has started providing Barcelona's El Prat Airport (BCN) with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) renewable diesel fuel. The company’s airside station supplies all fuel used by ground handling vehicles at BCN. “Compared with conventional fuels, HVO can cut CO2 emissions by up to 90% across its entire life cycle, from production to use,” Moeve said. “Its chemical composition is similar to that of fossil fuels, allowing it to be used immediately without any modifications to engines, storage or distribution infrastructure.”
Spanish firm Global Exchange reached an agreement with London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to operate 23 currency exchange sites across LHR’s four terminals. Global Exchange will begin providing services at LHR in January 2026. “The opportunity to offer our services at Heathrow is a true milestone for Global Exchange,” President Isidoro Alanís said. The company plans to offer “digital-led” services at LHR, “including latest-technology ATMs, cash-to-cash self-service dispensers, digital customer transaction screens with multilingual capability, and online click-and-collect services.”
Perth Airport (PER) in Australia signed a 10-year contract with airport landside bus service company SkyBus, a subsidiary of Australian bus operator Kinetic. SkyBus will deploy 11 buses at PER from Nov. 3 to transport passengers around airport grounds. Two of the buses will be electric. PER said all SkyBus buses will be electric within the 10-year contract time frame. “Transitioning to a fully electric fleet demonstrates our commitment to sustainable airport transport and positions Perth Airport at the forefront of clean transport innovation,” said Kinetic Executive General Manager Sarah Ismail.
