Air France opened its first premium lounge at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), where it competes against British Airways (BA) on flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

The new lounge in LHR’s Terminal 4 could provide an inducement for premium passengers to connect to Air France’s global hub at CDG. KLM and SkyTeam partner airlines’ premium flyers will also have access to the lounge at Europe’s busiest airport. KLM competes with BA on flights to its Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) hub.

The Air France lounge, featuring runway views, spans 750 m² (8,070 ft²) and has around 150 seats. A dining area has capacity for about 60 passengers at a mix of tables for two and a large communal table. Also included is a bar offering a “selection of champagne, French wines and spirits” and a spa treatment area, according to the airline.

“The lounge also features TV screens, free Wi-Fi and plenty of power sockets and USB ports near the seats,” Air France said. Members of Air France’s highest premium category, La Premiere, will have access to a private area with customized dining service.

Air France currently offers 12,432 two-way weekly seats between LHR and CDG aboard Airbus A220-300 aircraft, according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. British Airways operates 15,010 two-way weekly seats on the LHR-CDG route. No other airlines fly the route.

KLM currently offers 17,237 two-way weekly seats between LHR and AMS, while BA operates 16,127 two-way weekly seats on the route, which is not served by any other airlines.
