Swiss leisure carrier Edelweiss Air is expanding its long-haul network with two new routes to North America, starting in summer 2025.

The airline, a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines and part of Lufthansa Group, will operate a 2X-weekly service from Zurich to Seattle between June and September next year, followed by service to Halifax, Canada, from July to early October.

Initially, Edelweiss will use Airbus A340-300s on these routes, with plans to transition to its incoming A350-900s later in the season.

The airline has six A350s on order. Deliveries expected to start by the start of the second quarter in 2025. As of mid-August, the first of six A350s was in a hangar in Shannon, Ireland, being painted in Edelweiss livery.

The carrier’s first A350s will initially be deployed on various short and medium-haul destinations in their first few weeks, before being moved to the long-haul sectors they are being brought in to serve.

Las Vegas is expected to be the inaugural long-haul destination from May 2025. Once a second A350 enters service, Vancouver will also be operated using the aircraft type from July. The third Airbus A350 will join Edelweiss’ fleet at the beginning of October 2025, followed by a fourth in winter 2025-26. The final two will be delivered in the second half of 2026.

The Zurich-Seattle route will add to the carrier’s existing network in the U.S., which currently comprises Denver, Las Vegas and Tampa. Halifax will also become Edelweiss’ third destination in Canada alongside Calgary and Vancouver. OAG Schedules Analyser data shows that both Seattle and Halifax are without nonstop service to Switzerland at the present time.
