SINGAPORE—Air Cambodia has revealed an order for up to 20 Boeing 737-8s, which will be used to replace its Airbus narrowbodies and for significant fleet growth.

The deal, announced at the Singapore Airshow on Feb. 3, includes 10 firm orders and 10 options. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2031, Air Cambodia Vice CEO Nguyen Thien Luong told Aviation Week. The aircraft will be owned by the airline.

The order was previously listed as an unidentified customer on Boeing’s website.

The 737-8s will allow for major expansion. Air Cambodia’s fleet currently comprises three Airbus A320-family narrowbodies and four ATR 72s, according to the CAPA fleet database.

Nguyen said the 737-8s will eventually replace the Airbus narrowbodies. The Airbus aircraft are dry-leased until 2034, so Air Cambodia may consider subleasing them when the 737s begin arriving, he said.

The 737-8s will allow Air Cambodia to expand its network and increase its range. The airline aims to grow its service to neighboring countries, and also to more distant markets such as Australia, Japan, the Middle East and South Korea, Nguyen said. The Middle East and Japan would likely be the first priorities for expansion.

“The 737-8 gives Air Cambodia the ideal combination of range, capacity and fuel efficiency to support our next phase of growth,” Air Cambodia CEO David Zhan said.
