With new service from Frankfurt and Panama City now underway, Los Cabos is shifting its air service strategy toward long-haul diversification.

The airport is benefiting from people moving inland from California’s coast, an executive tells Routes.

Allegiant CEO John Redmond is bullish on the airline’s planned alliance with Mexico’s Viva Aerobus.

After signing an interline agreement, the airlines now hope to deepen their partnership by offering codeshares.

The ULCC is adding 27 new routes between April and June, including launching flights to two new destinations in Mexico.

The carrier believes its proposed JV with Allegiant Air will enable it to successfully connect to US markets beyond major metropolitan areas.

The ULCC, which three months ago launched transborder service to the US, is adding beach resort destinations in Mexico to its network.

Routes details the latest new route announcements, as well as the services returning to carriers’ networks.

The carrier is also resuming a slew of grounded routes next summer.

The carriers are asking US and Mexican authorities to allow an antitrust-immunized alliance to commence in the 2023 first quarter.

The airline, formerly known as Enerjet, will operate a fleet of 46 737 MAX aircraft.

The carrier, which started US transborder service at the end of October, continues its fast expansion.

Ryanair’s domestic expansion in Sweden, Swoop adding a fourth destination in Mexico, and Austrian Airlines returning to Montreal are among the latest new route announcements and service resumptions.

More winter sun destinations are being offered by Canada’s Sunwing.

The focus on Miami International comes as rival Spirit Airlines prepares to begin service from the airport.

“We think that there’s a lot of opportunity to add a lot more dots to the map,” says network planning vice president John Kirby.

The Texas-based carrier will add 10 domestic routes and four international routes from the state's capital.

The ULCC is currently the second largest Mexican carrier on transborder US routes by capacity.

The Florida-based ULCC is further growing its network from Los Angeles and adding a new destination in Mexico.

Three new services are being added in May as the ULCC seeks out leisure and VFR demand.

The carrier hopes the point-to-point routes will stimulate business travel this summer as well as attracting leisure traffic.

The network additions increase the US carrier’s footprint from Las Vegas to 44 destinations and Miami to 27.

This week one-way seats between the US and Mexico are down just 12% year-on-year.
