Qatar Holding – a subsidiary of the Qatar sovereign wealth fund – has taken a 20% stake in airport owner and operator BAA which owns London's Heathrow and Stansted airports as well as Glasgow and Aberdeen in Scotland and Southampton in the south of England.
Frontier Airlines will launch 3X-weekly Denver-Fargo Airbus A319 service Nov. 16. Air Berlin (AB) and Finnair (AY) have extended a codeshare under which AB will place its code on AY flights from Helsinki to Tallinn, Turku, Tampere and Oulu. AY will place its code on AB flights from Oslo Gardermoen, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen to Berlin (BER) and from CPH to Dusseldorf (DUS) Oct. 28. AY is also adding its code to AB-operated daily flights from DUS and BER to Abu Dhabi.
Bahraini national carrier Gulf Air (GF) will resume services to Iraq and Iran, some 17 months after it was ordered to suspend flights to the two countries over a political dispute.
RAK International Airport continues to show significant growth with 2nd Quarter 2012 results of 78.3% more passengers compared to the same quarter the previous year. This takes the first half of this year to 67.2% ahead of the same period in 2011. Similar growth was witnessed in terms of aircraft movements, cargo tonnage and retail.
