From The Archives: View Of The Americas Taken By Apollo 12 Crew

mar 9 1970

Portions of Southern California, Mexico, and Central America are visible through a clear spot in weather patterns in this photograph taken by the Apollo 12 crew on the cover of the Aviation Week & Space Technology issue dated March 9, 1970.

The command and service module had separated from the McDonnell Douglas S-4B orbital injection stage and was heading towards the Moon.

Note the trapezoidal panel from the adaptor section that housed the Grumman lunar module.
