From The Archives: Chandra X-Ray Observatory
The cover of the September 4, 2000, issue shows NASA's Chandra X-Ray Observatory, which provided significant data during its initial year of operation, complementing astronomical observations in other wavelengths.
Supernova remnant EO102-72 (top left), for example, is shown in a color composite made of Changra X-Ray imagery (blue), an optical from the Hubble Space Telescope (green), and a radio image from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (red).
The other three images are Chandra observations described in the story beginning on page 80. Images provided by NASA.
