Aircraft lessor and asset manager ORIX Aviation has completed its acquisition of UK-headquartered aftermarket specialist AerFin, broadening its capabilities into engine maintenance, component support and aircraft part-out services.
After receiving the required regulatory approvals, AerFin is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Dublin-based ORIX Aviation. The transaction, first announced in August, combines the Japanese-owned lessor's aircraft leasing, investment and asset management platform with AerFin's aircraft, engine and component trading and technical services businesses.
ORIX Aviation acquired AerFin from Danish private equity firm CataCap, which had been its majority shareholder since 2019. The transaction had been expected to close by year-end. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition gives ORIX Aviation more options for managing aircraft throughout their operating lives and eventual retirement, including access to part-out and used material services. AerFin's capabilities comprise parts inventory support, component sales and leasing, repair management and engine MRO.
“Joining ORIX Aviation gives us the long-term backing, global reach and shared ambition to accelerate our growth while remaining focused on what matters most: delivering trusted, flexible solutions for our customers,” says AerFin CEO Simon Goodson.
Founded in 2010 by Bob James, AerFin employs more than 230 people. In addition to its headquarters close to Newport, Wales, which it moved into in early 2025, it also operates facilities in Miami, Singapore and Dublin, with a customer base including airlines, lessors and MRO providers.
ORIX Aviation CEO James Meyler says the combination brings together complementary capabilities across the aircraft lifecycle and strengthens the services available to customers globally. He identifies AerFin's technical expertise, experienced workforce and customer network as foundations for further development.
Established in 1991, ORIX Aviation owns and manages more than 230 aircraft leased to more than 60 airline customers across more than 40 countries.
ORIX also holds a 30% shareholding in aircraft lessor Avolon and provides asset management services to Japanese investors, U.S. funds, banks and other financial institutions.
