Lithuanian MRO provider FL Technics is moving closer to a heavy maintenance presence in the Americas as the first phase of its project in the Dominican Republic nears completion.

FL Technics said construction of its 52,000 m2 (approximately 560,000 ft.2) complex in Punta Cana is now over halfway complete ahead of a planned opening this October, with recruitment also well underway.

The five-bay hangar will offer base maintenance for Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 operators in the Americas region, building on FL Technics’ existing parts trading and line maintenance networks there.

The company also has hangars in Lithuania, the UK and Indonesia.

“The new facility in Punta Cana represents a significant milestone in FL Technics’ expansion, bringing our aircraft repair and overhaul expertise closer to operators in the Americas,” said Juozas Lapeika, FL Technics’ deputy CEO for base maintenance. “With FAA and IDAC [Dominican Civil Aviation Institute] certifications underway, we are well-equipped to provide high-quality aircraft maintenance support, ensuring fleet reliability and operational efficiency.”

FL Technics plans to expand its Punta Cana hangar capacity to 12 bays in phase two and to 20 bays in phase three of the project as part of plans to more than double its turnover to above €1 billion ($1.1 billion) by 2030.

Last year, the MRO provider’s parent company, Avia Solutions Group, whose core business is ACMI services, reported a revenue split for the first half of 2024 of 55% from Europe, 28% from Asia and 12% from the Americas.

The maintenance specialist also is ramping up its Latin America operation by investing heavily in the Punta Cana facility to increase its capabilities through the purchase of aviation assets, such as airframes, engines, auxiliary power units and landing gear for teardown and repair purposes.

The Punta Cana facility will have workshops with sheet metal, composite, paint and interior capabilities.
