STS Aviation Services has agreed a deal to lease a base maintenance facility in Manchester, UK and will commence operations at the site in October.

The facility has a volume area of around 140,000 sq.ft. and has capacity for multiple lines of maintenance, according to STS. The facility was formerly operated by Thomas Cook before it liquidated, but STS would not verify this.

Once in operation, U.S.-headquartered STS will look to add new job roles with immediate effect. “In the coming months, our team will introduce 100+ jobs in Manchester with 100 more coming online in 2023,” says Mick Adams, CEO of STS Aviation Services. “As part of STS’ long-term resourcing strategy, we will launch new trainee and apprenticeship schemes, something that is critical to the future of aviation in the United Kingdom.”

Leasing the Manchester facility increases the number of STS Aviation Services' UK-based facilities to three. It operates the former Monarch Aircraft Engineering hangar in Birmingham which it acquired in 2019.

It also has a facility in Newquay acquired from Apple Aviation that same year where it offers base and line maintenance services.

Ian Bartholomew, Senior VP of commercial and business development at STS Aviation Services, adds that positioning these MRO capabilities at key airport gateways is a specific strategy designed to assist help airline customers with cost reductions and elapsed times for aircraft maintenance events.
