SINGAPORE—SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Safran Aircraft Engines will establish a joint venture to create a full-service CFM Leap engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Singapore, supporting both Leap-1A and Leap-1B engines.

The venture could involve the construction of a new facility and will incorporate the Leap engine quick-turn capabilities currently provided by SIAEC through its Aircraft Engine Services operation in Changi North.

Safran Aircraft Engines will hold a 51% stake in the new company, while SIAEC will own the remaining 49%.

Under the agreement, SIAEC will contribute up to $57.8 million, including in-kind contributions valued at $13.7 million. Safran Aircraft Engines will contribute up to $60.2 million, bringing the total investment in the venture to approximately $118 million.

“The creation of this joint company with SIAEC marks a significant step forward in strengthening our global MRO ecosystem to meet the accelerating demand for Leap engine maintenance in Asia-Pacific,” said Nicolas Potier, executive vice president for support and services at Safran Aircraft Engines.

The move comes as Leap-powered fleets continue to expand rapidly across the region. Aviation Week Fleet Discovery data shows 1,556 Leap-1A and Leap-1B engines are currently in service across Asia-Pacific, China and India, with a further 3,091 engines on order.

Singapore already hosts several major engine maintenance providers, including ST Engineering, which offers full Leap engine overhaul and test-cell capabilities.
