MAB Engineering, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group, is moving into a much larger hangar at Kuala Lumpur’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport that will allow it to double its MRO capability at that airport.
The company announced the commissioning of the newly renovated Hangar 4 on May 7. MAB Engineering will relocate its operations at the airport—commonly known as Subang—from its current Hangar 1.
The hangars at Subang are owned by Impeccable Vintage Properties (IVP), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of state investment fund Khazanah. IVP leases the hangars to MAB and other operators. MAB has a 15-year lease deal with IVP for Hangar 4.
MAB’s Subang MRO operations were constrained by the limited size of Hangar 1, which accommodated two maintenance lines. Hangar 4 has one widebody line, one narrowbody line and two turboprop lines.
“The move to Hangar 4 also improves operational efficiency through a more structured maintenance environment, enabling better workflow planning, greater flexibility across mixed fleet types, and stronger utilization of resources across the network,” MAB Engineering said.
The switch to the larger Hangar 4 is part of a strategic expansion under the Malaysia Aviation Group’s long-term business plan. It will allow MAB Engineering to better serve group carriers Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, as well as enhance its ability to serve third-party customers, Malaysia Aviation Group CEO Nasaruddin Bakar said.
About half of the facility will support group airlines and the other half third-party airlines.
MAB also has MRO facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang. It currently operates 13 aircraft bays across both facilities.
