Watch The F-35C Land Aboard USS Eisenhower

The U.S. Navy has released videos of the F-35C Lightning II undergoing the second phase of developmental tests aboard USS Eisenhower in the Atlantic Ocean.

The trials, expected to take two weeks, build upon work done in November 2014 on USS Nimitz off the coast of San Diego.

Trials will include the first-ever ship-based night qualification tests with the Generation III helmet, which incorporates fixes to address earlier problems with the jitter and acuity in the Generation II helmet. Pilots will also conduct day and night carrier qualification exercises, and – for the first time on a carrier – conduct operations using the Navy’s New Joint Precision Approach and Landing System.

The Navy also will experiment with different weapons loads inside the F-35C’s weapons bay and conduct maximum power catapult launches, according to a program official.

More videos from aboard the carrier can be viewed here
