From The Archives: Under Pressure—Forty Years Ago In Aviation Week

may 26 1986

The cover of Aviation Week & Space Technology’s May 26, 1986, issue featured a three-dimensional, computational fluid dynamics model developed by Albrecht Eberle of Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blohm used for pressure simulation studies on a European fighter aircraft configuration that would evolve into the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Low pressure can be observed at the wing leading edge in blue. Shocks are at the trailing edge as red strips. Code validation was performed on a Cray Research, Inc., Cray X-MP supercomputer.
