Taiwan is in the process of gathering information to upgrade the avionics on its 20 Lockheed Martin C-130H military transport aircraft.

A request for information (RFI) was issued on the U.S. government contract portal on March 19 to upgrade the Hercules’ cockpit systems based on the Collins Flight2 integrated avionics system. The document has a subtitle for C-130J foreign military sales. The scope covers two aircraft to be modified in a U.S. location and the remaining 18 in Taiwan, with maintenance and training support from U.S. personnel.

The upgrade will enable the Taiwan Air Force C-130Hs to be certified to fly and navigate in civilian airspace.

Collins Flight2 includes GPS/Satellite-Based Augmentation System RNP (required navigation performance) and RNAV (area navigation) capabilities, an enhanced military profiles feature, new 6 X 8-in. multifunction displays, night vision compatibility and a flight management system for civil and military airspace.

Outside the U.S., the Flight2 system is in service with C-130s from France, Portugal, Morocco and 138 other international C-130s.
