Embraer has signed agreements with Greece’s Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) as it attempts to clinch an order for the C-390 Millennium airlifter there.

The agreement with HAI—a military maintenance, repair and overhaul organization—would give the Hellenic Air Force the operational and support autonomy needed to support a C-390 fleet if acquired, Embraer said on May 22.

Greece has been linked with a potential purchase of the twin-engine turbofan-powered airlifter to replace its long-serving Lockheed C-130H Hercules fleet.

“Developing C-390 maintenance and support capabilities in Greece not only serves the operational needs of the Hellenic Air Force—it also builds an industrial foundation of lasting, long-term value for our country,” said Alexandros Diakopoulos, the Executive Chairman of HAI.

“This agreement will also enable Embraer to further strengthen its presence in Greece and reinforce its long-standing relationship with the country,” said Douglas Lobo, Embraer’s VP for Customer Support and Aftermarket Sales.

The Hellenic Air Force already has a small fleet of Embraer-made aircraft including Saab Erieye radar-equipped EMB/ERJ-145Hs for the airborne early warning task, and EMB/ERJ-135s for VIP and passenger duties.

The C-390 has successfully captured several tactical transport fleet renewal campaigns in Europe including Austria, Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Sweden. The type is already in service in Portugal and Hungary.
