A new export authorization for Germany carried the RTX AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (Amraam) program beyond the 4,000-missile mark so far this year for potential foreign sales.

The U.S. government approved a request from Germany to potentially buy up to 400 AIM-120Ds for its Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters, the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress on Sept. 25.

The approval is the 10th by the U.S. government on behalf of Amraam exports so far this year, with a combined tally of 4,260 missiles authorized for export.

The approvals include four different Amraam variants: the AIM-120C-8, AIM-120D, AIM-120D-3 and Amraam-Extended Range (ER).

The list of authorizations include potential mega deals with Saudi Arabia for 1,000 AIM-120C-8s and with Japan for 1,200 AIM-120D3s and AIM-120C-8s.

The DSCA notifications represent authorizations only and not confirmed sales.

The authorization for Germany, which also includes 12 guidance sections and an integrated test vehicle, would cost $1.23 billion, the DSCA says.

The full list of DSCA approvals are:

• Germany: 400 AIM-120Ds, (Sept. 25)

• Netherlands: 232 AIM-120C-8s, (Sept. 16)
