One could say that every aircraft type starts life in the experimental category, where its design and technology must be proven to win certification from the FAA, EASA and other organizations.
There is no place where people can find more experimental aircraft than EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, where members of the Experimental Aircraft Association and others converge every July. This year’s show, expected to draw more than 670,000 visitors, was no exception, with a mix of old and new aircraft, each of which blazed a trail in its own way.
At this year's AirVenture, visitors could find aircraft that depend on electric powertrains, are built with advanced materials and showcase numerous other innovations.
