Spearhead
PARIS—A small French aviation startup announced a partnership with Taiwan’s state-owned aerospace manufacturer on the opening day of the Eurosatory trade show here on June 15.
I-See Airborne Solutions, which was founded in 2012, unveiled the Spearhead, a jet-powered attack variant of a family of medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) for the military market.
I-See signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with AIDC President Tsao Chin-Pin and Hao Pei-Chih, Taiwan’s ambassador to France, pledging to work together on “high value-added” projects in the aerospace sector.
“This MOU is a first step. What comes next, we will build together,” I-See Airborne Solutions said in a statement.
The French company is developing a MALE-sized UAS family with several variants. The first three in development are propeller-driven aircraft focused on missions for electronic warfare, loitering attack and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR).
A fourth aircraft is now in development, powered by a turbojet engine, said I-See Managing Director Remi Artusio, speaking to Aviation Week on the sidelines of the show.
“We expect to have first flight before the end of the year,” Artusio said.
The initial version of Spearhead will retain the straight wing of the propeller-driven variants, but I-See plans to integrate a swept wing to the aircraft later, Artusio said.
