From The Archives: Gulfstream 4 On Second Flight Near Savannah

The first flight of the Gulfstream 4 was made from the Gulfstream Aerospace facility in Savannah, on Sept. 19, 1965, with the landing gear extended. 

During the second flight, pictured on the cover, was performed on the same day, the landing gear was retracted. Both flights were made by Gulfstream's chief test pilot, Leland Johnson, and director of flight operations, Edward Mendenhall.

At the time of publication, Gulfstream had more than 80 orders for the Gulfstream 4.

Initial aircraft deliveries to completion centers are planned for mid-1986. 

The aircraft is powered by two 12,420 lb.-thrust Rolls_Royce tay engines.
