Luxair Expands its 737 Family Commitment
European regional carrier Luxair announced an order for up to four Boeing 737 MAX-10s at the Farnborough Airshow.
Coming one year after its purchase of four 737 MAX-7s and four 737 MAX-8s, the Luxembourg-based carrier is positioning this latest order as part of its growth strategy and sustainability efforts. The new -10 order is for two firm and two options.
“The purchase of the 737-10 is another step towards Luxair positioning for its future with the investment in the latest airplane technology that will support [our] growth plans and the decarbonization of our fleet. There is high commonality between the 737 MAX models, and this allows for significant operational savings for the airline,” Luxair CEO Gilles Feith said. “In addition to reducing overall fuel use and emissions, the 737 MAXs will help create a 50% smaller noise footprint.”
Luxair currently operates a regional fleet of 21 aircraft, including two leased 737-8s and eight 737NGs, and has grown its route network by 30% over the past two years, now serving 94 destinations. The addition of the 737-10s will further the carrier’s reach, while enabling it to carry more passengers per flight. The planned configuration of each new -10 will serve 213 passengers on routes stretching 5,740km (3,100 nm).
“With three members of the 737 MAX family in its fleet, Luxair will have the flexibility to use the right-size airplane according to the market demand,” Boeing SVP commercial sales and marketing Brad McMullen said.
Luxair also has four Embraer E195-E2s on order, according to Aviation Week Network’s Fleet Discovery Database.
