Macquarie AirFinance placed an order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX-8s, doubling the lessor’s order book for the type.
The deal is the company’s first direct order with Boeing, having acquired a previous MAX order from Kuwaiti lessor ALAFCO in January 2023. That $2.2 billion agreement with ALAFCO comprised 53 aircraft and the order book for the MAXs.
“The continued expansion and renewal of our fleet underscores our confidence in the strong future growth prospects of global commercial air transport,” CEO Eamonn Bane said.
Macquarie has a portfolio of 236 aircraft leased to 85 airlines in 49 countries. It now has a firm orderbook of 86 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing.
With offices in Dublin, London, San Francisco and Singapore, Macquarie is owned by Macquarie Asset Management, PGGM Infrastructure Fund and Australian Retirement Trust.
Earlier this year, the business agreed to a follow-on acquisition with ALAFCO for 23 aircraft in a transaction totalling €1.1 billion ($1.2 billion). At the time, the portfolio was leased to 10 airlines.
