HAMBURG—F/LIST, a supplier of finish materials for business aviation, is offering wood veneer and stone for applications in premium cabin decoration, showcasing them here at the AIX cabin interiors show.

The demand the Austria-based company is meeting shows the use of natural and waste-based materials is compatible with attractive cabin design.

The passengers F/LIST has in mind fly business jets for short to medium-haul travel and resort to commercial aviation for long-haul. “We know the experience they are looking for,” says Anita Gradwohl, group director for customer relations and sales. “And the airlines they fly with want their customers to make memories in the cabin.”

The company’s stone inlay, a 2.5-mm-thick layer of stone decor made of stone scrap recovered from F/LIST's residential activities, is already in use in several business-class seats, covering the cocktails tray, Gradwohl says. The company relies on marble dust, for instance.

The wood veneer, a thin layer of wood laid onto a composite honeycomb, receives an application of oil. The resulting surface is scratch- and fluid-resistant, in addition to withstanding UV rays and meeting flammability, heat-release and toxicity requirements, Gradwohl says. F/LIST's wood veneer is suited to premium-class seat environments, such as side ledges, she emphasizes. It has just been used in a retrofit project with a business aircraft cabin supplier, before it was exhibited at AIX.

Meanwhile, stone dust (such as dust coming from the stone inlay manufacturing processes), metal dust and waste from other manufacturing activities, such as mother of pearl offcuts, serve as the basis for F/LIST's Aenigma cover material. Available in both hard and soft versions, it can imitate animal-based materials such as sting ray skin. Aenigma can integrate control switches and a touchpad for light dimming. In business aviation, where Aenigma is flying, the morphing armrest hides an NFC phone charger and, as its name suggests, becomes slightly hollow when the passenger puts down their device.
