EgyptAir simulator now online

FlightSafety International said its Boeing 737-800 Level D full flight simulator built for EgyptAir is now in operation and has been qualified by the Direction Generale de l'Aviation Civile of France.

The simulator was qualified in accordance with JAR FSTD A on January 7, 2009 and entered service on January 10 at the EgyptAir Simulator Training Center in Cairo. FlightSafety also delivered a PC-based B737NG Flight Management System Trainer to EgyptAir.

“FlightSafety designed, manufactured, delivered and received qualification for the simulator within ten months of receiving the contract. This is another example of the quality, efficiency and value we provide our customers,” said Rick Armstrong, Vice President Simulation, FlightSafety International. “This is the sixteenth Boeing 737 simulator built by FlightSafety and the fourth to enter service in Africa,” added Armstrong.

The simulator is equipped with FlightSafety’s industry leading 60-inch electric motion and control loading technology and the company’s 40x200 Field of View 3-channel VITAL X Visual System equipped with LCOS fixed-matrix projectors. The simulator also features a custom Instructor Operator Station designed specifically to EgyptAir’s training requirements.

Simulators equipped with FlightSafety’s electric motion and control loading technology offer the highest level of aircraft fidelity, enhanced performance and availability due to a reduction in maintenance requirements and increased reliability. They also offer environmental advantages compared to previous generation devices, as they produce less heat, lower levels of ambient noise and provide a safer environment due to the elimination of the risks often associated with hydraulic fluids, as well as our dependency on petroleum products.

FlightSafety’s VITAL X visual system features the latest COTS PC technology combining high performance computers with advanced graphics processors. It offers a Global Synthetic Natural Environment world database of geo-specific satellite imagery allowing worldwide continuous flight. The system supports hundreds of six Degree of Freedom fully articulated moving models, 3D sea states, physics-based MultiVis atmospheric weather and sensor effects, and shaders to enhance training realism. FlightSafety says its VITAL X is a highly cost effective solution for current and future visual applications as well as upgrades of existing training devices.
