Astral Aviation and Ethiopian Airlines outline cargo expansions

Ethiopian Cargo and Astral Aviation have outlined their expansion plans at the Africa Air Cargo Summit.

Air Cargo News has reported that the two cargo carriers are expanding in order to capitalise on the marketplace.
Astral Aviation chief executive Sanjeev Gadhia explained that the carrier is aiming to add Boeing 747 freighters and B737-400F to its fleet, with plans to add a new hub and integrate drones into the fleet.
“We don’t believe you can have a single hub for Africa. The continent is too big and the distances are too big. You need to have a multi-hub strategy for Africa,” said Gadhia.
Ethiopian Airlines’ chief executive officer, Tewolde Gebremariam, has said the carrier planned to have a fleet of 18 freighters, adding to the current fleet of two B757s and six B777s.
The carrier plans to increase cargo revenues to $2 billion by 2025, making an annual profit of $200 million and raising annual tonnage to 820,000 tons from its current 350,000 tons.
