World Routes: Monday's news highlights
A variety of news from airports, airlines, tourism authorities and suppliers is being released hourly at World Routes in Beijing. Here's a round-up of today's news highlights so far:
- Bordeaux Airports has launched 'billi', its new €5.5 million purpose built low-cost terminal. The terminal is set to open in May 2010 and has promised carriers turnaround times of 25 minutes. "Our research highlighted a real need for a product tailored to accommodate low-cost airlines, a product that would sit alongside our existing regional and international airport products," said Pascal Personne, CEO of Bordeaux Airport.
- Singapore's Changi Airport Group (CAG) have signed a sister airports Memorandum of Understanding with Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA), which strengthens the relationship between the two airports. This includes a framwork for the gateways to share information and research; to collaborate through joint projects; seminars and staff training. "BCIA is an important hub airport and a key gateway to China. Both Changi and BCIA have much in commmon, including shared philosophies and beliefs," said CAG's CEO, Lee Seow Hiang.
- Monterrey International Airport in Mexico has announced thats its new Terminal B with a capacity of 2mppa will open in early 2010. Sustainability was key in the design and the airport said the terminal would use less energy thanks to its efficient air conditioning system and improved use of natural light.
