US budget carrier JetBlue Airways has opened reservations for its new routes to the historic southern port of Charleston, the first South Carolina destination to be offered by the airline, which is now marketing itself as a “high-value” carrier. JetBlue will introduce twice daily flights to Charleston International Airport from New York John F Kennedy International and daily services from Boston Logan International with effect from February 28, 2013. These flights will be operated using 100-seat Embraer 190 equipment.
"JetBlue is pleased to introduce a new class of in-flight service to the Charleston community," said Dave Barger, President and CEO, JetBlue Airways. "We are pleased to welcome South Carolina into our growing route network, and we believe the addition of the region's only full-size jet service to the Northeast will foster even more loyal fans of JetBlue throughout the state."
Charleston is a prime destination for both business and leisure travelers and there's plenty to explore in the historic port city in all seasons and for all types of travellers, including art and culture, beach and golf resorts, fine dining and shopping, and charming architecture and southern hospitality.
Charleston International Airport is a joint civil-military facility that is currently served by all the US majors, although the majority of these flights are operated by regional partners. New York is already linked to the city by Delta Connection via LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International, but there are currently no non-stop services to Boston. In 2011 an estimated 202,000 O&D passengers travelled between Charleston and the greater New York area, while approximately 63,000 flew between Charleston and Boston.
