WORLD ROUTES 2011: Event Highlights

We are now less than four weeks away from the 17th World Route Development Forum where, up to 2,700 delegates from the world’ s Airlines, Airports, Tourism Authorities and Key Industry Suppliers will gather.

Below are some of this year’s highlights and the key reasons for attending the world’s largest commercial aviation event.

• Record airline attendance – we have more airline attendees than ever before with over 300 airlines registered. Many are bringing their largest delegations ever, for instance British Airways will have 17 delegates, Emirates Airline (eleven), Lufthansa (eleven) and Etihad Airways (seven), to name a few.

• New airlines – 41 new carriers have registered in the last three weeks, including; Singapore Airlines, Blue 1, Jet Airways, Flybe, Gulf Air, Carpatair, Viking Hellas, TUIfly, TUI Deutsch, Transavia, Tarom, S7 and Germania.

• Route Exchange Airline Briefings - Over 20 airlines will be briefing airports and destinations on their route development plans and opportunities, including: Emirates Airline, WestJet, IndiGo, and Lufthansa.

• Networking & Meetings – World Routes attracts the industry’s decision-makers and by attending the event you will have the chance to meet them whether it is through formal meetings, extra meetings or hospitality functions.

• World Route Development Strategy Summit – Many of the world’s airport and airline CEOs are attending the strategy summit which will be shaping the future of route development. Come and listen to over 50 leading speakers including: Hussein Dabbas (CEO, Royal Jordanian), Edmond Rose (Commercial Director, Virgin Atlantic), Alex Cruz (CEO, Vueling Airlines) and Kevin Knight (Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, Etihad Airways).

• Tourism Ministers – We have eleven Tourism Ministries presenting in Routes Talks Tourism Theatre including Mr George Nikitiades (Deputy Minister for Tourism Greece), HE Mr Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour (Ministry of Tourism, Egypt) and Mr Ibrahim Yazar (Deputy Director General, Turkey).

• Social Media - Listen to key thought leaders in the social media world: Shashank Nigam (CEO, SimpliFlying), Christi McNeil (Southwest Airlines) and Dr Matthew McDougall (Digital Jungle / SinoTech Group)

• Cargo – We are expecting more cargo delegates and meetings this year, with an afternoon on cargo in the World Route Development Strategy Summit and a Route Talks Theatre dedicated to cargo, both with leading speakers such as Jim Owens (VP Global Sales, UPS), Ram Menen (Divisional Senior VP, Emirates) and Daniel Meysmans (Senior Advisor Airport Development, FedEx).
