WORLD ROUTES 2011: Berlin Tours & Excursions

The formal proceedings to this year's World Routes do not commence until Sunday, but delegates that have arrived in the German capital early can look forward to a varied programme of city tours, a pre-event Golf tournament and the chance to network with colleagues from the business at the informal Saturday night reception.

The excursions taking place today include:

Experience Berlin

Attending Routes in Berlin is a great opportunity to get to know one of the World's most unique cities and there are a number of tours that Routes delegates can take advantage of. Berlin is the place to be: whether museums or galleries, dining or entertainment, music or fashion, here is where new trends are set. The legendary nightlife, the attractive and unusual shopping opportunities, but also the unique history shaped by changes and upheavals, are attracting more and more guests from all around the globe. We are sure the following tours will be a highlight of your visit to Berlin:

1. Berlin Tour – Explore the City of Cool
This city tour takes you to places of interest such as the Memorial Church, the KaDeWe department store, Kreuzberg, Oberbaum bridge, the former Stalin Allee, Alexanderplatz, the Hackescher Market, Checkpoint Charlie and, of course, Unter den Linden. This is a great opportunity to experience Berlin's past and present.

Prussian Castles & Palaces

On this day tour you will be taken to Potsdam – capital of the State of Brandenburg. The city is home to the summer residence of the Prussian kings called Sanssouci. This castle is situated in a beautiful park of the same name. It comprises 13 palaces in a landscaped garden designed by the famous architect Peter Josef Lenné. Cecilienhof palace in the New Garden was the setting for the 1945 Potsdam Conference. In 1990 the palaces and parks of Potsdam and Berlin were designated as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO.

Babelsberg Film Tour

Since 1912 the name Babelsberg has been synonymous with unforgettable films, impressive sets, imaginative costumes and unique props. Numerous stars launched their careers from Babelsberg and more than 3,000 feature films and television productions have been created here. This tour invites you to travel back in time through almost a century of filming history in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Follow us on our way through the villa colony of Neubabelsberg and have a look behind the scenes of Babelsberg Film Park itself.

BER Airport Construction Site Tour
Enjoy the breathtaking panorama from the 32-metre-high BER Infotower and see a construction site the size of 2,000 football pitches. Experience Europe’s most modern concrete factory and meticulously planned construction site logistics.

Golf Tournament
In addition to the above tours, airberlin and Berlin Airports invite you to an extraordinary golf experience at the golf and country club 'Seddiner See'. This club has been a member of the 'Leading Golf Courses of Germany' since 2010 and the south course was elected Number 1 at the 'Leading Golf Course of Germany' ranking last year. The bus to the course departs at 07.30 and after arrival an energising breakfast is waiting for you followed by an exciting tournament! The club offers two 18-hole championship courses on an area of 185 hectares. After honouring the winner of the tournament participants can enjoy a snack buffet.

Saturday Reception
We also look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday 1st October at the Saturday Reception at the Maritim Hotel Berlin, sponsored by Istanbul Sabiha Gocken International Airport . This informal event will include drinks, entertainment, a prize draw and will be a great opportunity for delegates to begin their networking at World Routes. The invitation to this reception was included in the final mail-out pack. Delegates are requested to present these on arrival at the Maritim hotel.
