What’s On The Horizon For: Aeropuertos Mexicanos

Representatives of Aeropuertos Mexicanos spoke during Routes Americas 2025 about its airports’ latest successes and key target markets to increase air connectivity across the Mexican Pacific coast.

Aeropuertos Mexicanos (AME), the operator of Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ) and Puerto Escondido International Airport (PMX), is working to expand air connectivity to Mexico’s Pacific coast while strengthening airport infrastructure and commercial development.

As part of the new Mexican Tourist Airport Group, a public-private partnership, AME is committed to enhancing Mexico’s air transport network and improving service for both passengers and airlines.

PMX, located in a fast-growing tourism destination, handled 1 million passengers in 2024. The airport currently serves four domestic routes but aims to accommodate international flights once its new 18,000 m² terminal is completed.

Meanwhile, TPQ has secured Mexican ULCC Volaris to launch the first international service with a 3X-weekly route to Los Angeles International Airport in July. The new service has been the product of several meetings during Routes events.

Speaking at Routes Americas 2025, AME director general Javier García Bejos said the organization is in talks with three major Mexican airlines and is also working to bring United Airlines to PMX. Other key targets include destinations across the west coast such as San Fransico, Seattle and Vancouver. There are also major hubs within a short travel distance from both airports that would offer fast connections for its passengers.

“To start our project with Aeropuertos Mexicanos, we decided to use Routes as an awareness platform,” Bejos said. Exhibiting at Routes Americas 2025 in Nassau & Paradise Island, he added: “We are thrilled to be here. We always find not only a way to build a business case but also to network and start cementing our position within the market.”
