OceanAir changes its name and brand to Avianca

The Brazilian airline, owned by German Efromovich and part of the Avianca/TACA and Synergy AerospaceGroup, has changed its name and brand to Avianca. The airline, received its first A319 last weekend, the beginning of a fleet of NG Airbus aircraft, four of which are scheduled to be delivered this year. This is part of last year's order for 14 A320 family aircraft and seven A330-200s to replace its current fleet of Fokker 100s


TACA launches Panama-Medellin, Colombia nonstop service

The Avianca/TACA joint venture member has launched three time-weekly nonstop flights between Panama and Medallion. The flights are operated with Embraer ERJ190 aircraft and add to the group's coverage in the region. It will face competition on the route from Copa Airlines which operates a double daily and Lacsa which operates a daily service. IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that over 94,000 O+D passengers have flown this route between Feb 09-10.


230410-fff-americanAmerican Airlines has begun nonstop New York-San Jose, Costa Rica service

The new, five-time weekly service is operated with Boeing 757s and increases the total capacity between New York and Costa Rica by 24%. This is the second nonstop service between JFK and San Jose. Lacsa also offers a three times weekly rotation, with Continental serving SJO from New York, Newark.
