US majors extend codeshare

United Airlines and Continental Airlines have extended their Star Alliance codeshare agreements to take into account Central America and selected Asian markets.

Houston based Continental Airlines has commenced a codeshare on UA services to China, Korea and Singapore. Both carriers have a number of services to Asia, with United operating six destinations from the US, however with its hub at Narita it actually operates 232 weekly services in Asia. Continental Airlines operates 202 weekly services in Asia, with 14 destinations boosted by its hub in Guam.

To Central America United will codeshare on Continental routes, and there is a significant gulf in capacity offered by the two carriers. United has a small network to Central America with just four destinations , whereas Continental serves 38 destinations and 1267 weekly departures.
