Spirit Airlines continue LATAM expansion
On November 13th, Fort Lauderdale based low cost operator, Spirit Airlines commenced a new 4x weekly service to Armenia in Colombia, the 4th destination to be operated in Colombia by the expanding carrier. The new route is to be launched on a 3x weekly rotation with A319 aircraft, complementing existing services from Fort Lauderdale. Spirit already operates Bogota on a double daily, Cartagena on an 8x weekly and Medellin on a 10 x weekly rotation.
Spirit is now the fifth largest operator between Colombia and the US in terms of seat capacity. Avianca, the national airline of Colombia is the largest operator between the countries followed by American legacy carrier, American Airlines, Continental Airlines and Delta Airlines. Spirit is the largest low cost operator from the US mainland into Colombia.
