SINGAPORE—Singapore Airlines will launch flights to Madrid via Barcelona from Oct. 26, 2026, marking the carrier’s return to the Spanish capital after 22 years.

The airline will restructure its current twice-weekly Singapore–Barcelona service into a 5X-weekly Singapore–Barcelona–Madrid route, while discontinuing its 3X-weekly Milan–Barcelona flights.

The route will be operated by Airbus A350-900 equipment in SIA’s long-haul configuration, featuring 42 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy seats and 187 economy seats.

Changi Airport Group welcomed the move, describing Madrid as one of Singapore’s most underserved European markets.

“Madrid is one of Changi’s most in-demand destinations that has yet to be served by direct flights,” Changi Airport Group executive vice president for air hub and cargo development, Lim Ching Kiat, tells Aviation Week. “Since 2022, the number of people traveling between Madrid and Singapore has grown by about 27% annually, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by nearly 20%.”

As SIA continues suspending flights to Dubai until August, the Star Alliance member is increasing capacity to Europe. Singapore–Manchester services will rise from 5X-weekly to daily from July 13.

From Oct. 25, Singapore–London Gatwick flights will increase from 3X-weekly to daily, while Singapore–Milan services will also grow from 4X-weekly to daily.

A new 3X-weekly Singapore–Munich service will complement the airline’s existing daily operation to the German city.

SIA has recorded stronger demand on European routes following disruption in the Middle East. In March, revenue passenger kilometers rose 14.7% year on year, while load factors on European services increased 13.8 percentage points to 93.5%.
