Serving Short-haul Markets

Across its European network, CityJet operates a fleet of Avro RJ85 aircraft.

Established in Dublin in 1993, CityJet began services in January 1994, operating its first scheduled flights on the Dublin-London City route.

In 2007 CityJet announced a major expansion of its London City network, opening eight new routes, in addition to the existing Dublin and Paris operations. From Paris CDG, CityJet began operating to Dublin, London City, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Zurich and Florence. From Paris Orly, it served London City.

CityJet's current network at LCY consists of 188 weekly frequencies to eight destinations (Source: Flightbase 14-20 March 2010).

Current Fleet:

  • 23 Avro RJ85s
  • 14 Fokker 50s
  • Three wet-leased Dornier 328s

Network Strategy

As a fully independent subsidiary, CityJet has commercial autonomy over its London City network, however new routes from CDG are evaluated and chosen by Air France.

Route Exchange

CityJet is particularly interested in discussing new opportunities from London City at Routes Europe. This includes dense business routes, off-peak and leisure routes. Potential destinations should be well suited to its fleet - within 800 nautical miles of London City (for the Avro RJ85) or 300 nautical miles (for the Fokker 50).

Information Required from Airports:

  • Market potential
  • Why would a route from London City to a particular airport work? What are the passenger forecasts?
  • What is the competition?
  • What are the main traffic drivers (specific large companies, etc)?
  • What support can the airport offer?

"For this initial discussion we do not care about how many fire engines, snow ploughs, or coffee shops the airport has, we only want to learn about the market potential," says CitiJet. "We are considering opportunities for both W10 and S11."
