Routes Talks Seminar Theatre Returns for Berlin

After their successful debut in Vancouver, Routes Talks will be even bigger and better in Berlin. There will be three theatres located in the Networking Village at this year’s World Routes each with its own individual theme; Tourism, Social Media and Cargo.

Tourism continues to be an area of growing importance in the field of route development and this continues to be reflected each year at World Routes. This year, the Tourism Theatre will play host to a series of Ministerial Destination Briefings in which delegates will have the opportunity to hear firsthand, the latest developments and strategies which the world's tourism organisations are currently using in order to drive visitor numbers in their destinations. During these briefings, invited delegates will be shown both quantitative and qualitative evidence and details of each destination’s:

  • Identified underserved source markets which require new or increased air services to their destination
  • Strategic plans and ambitions for their Tourism Industry
  • Route Support initiatives for airlines and tour operators.

These briefings will provide Routes delegates with a superb opportunity to gather market intelligence directly from the most senior level of the world’s Tourism Authorities. Speakers already confirmed include H.E. Mr Mounir Fakhry Abd El Nour, Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Mr Fadhil Al-Saaegh, Chief Executive Officer for Iraq Tourism - Al-Rafidain, H.E. Mr Nayef Al Fayez, Director General of the Jordanian Tourism Board, Mr Joel Morgan, Honorable Minister for Tourism for the Seychelles and Mr Alberto Lim, Honorable Tourism Secretary for the Philippine Ministry for Tourism.

Social media is a hot topic right now with more and more businesses using this type of platform to get their message out to existing and potential customers. Within the route development industry social media is changing the face of how we contact and communicate with each other making social media an ideal discussion topic for the Routes Talks programme at this year’s event.

The dedicated social media theatre in Berlin will explore how social media is being used within the industry with presentations from key industry experts in the field, together with firsthand accounts from airlines and airports explaining how it works for them.

Dr Matthew McDougall, CEO of the Beijing based SinoTech Group will give an insight into the Chjinese Social Media Universe, Mr Shashank Nigam, CEO of Simpliflying will discuss crisis management techniques using social media and Christi McNeill, Emerging Media Strategy Specialist from Southwest Airlines, who manages a very successful corporate social media strategy, will give advice on how to generate followers and what to do when you have them. With many other speakers already signed up the Social Media Theatre looks set to host some very interesting and informative talks.

Cargo is playing an increasingly significant role at World Routes and last year in Vancouver saw a record number of cargo businesses in attendance. This year in Berlin looks set to play host to more cargo carriers than ever before with registrations from first time attendees such as; Air Canada Cargo and Saudi Arabian Airlines Cargo whose Director Cargo Sales, Steve Manser has already agreed to speak in the Seminar Theatre dedicated to the cargo community. Other notable cargo carriers attending this year’s event are UPS and Air China Cargo.

This year’s event also sees the return of FedEx Express, the largest cargo carrier in the world Daniel Meysmans, Senior Advisor Airport Development for FedEx will give a unique insight, to all interested cargo airports, into how best to approach the airline in the Cargo Seminar Theatre, surely an opportunity not to be missed!

The diversity and calibre of the Routes Talks programme, which is open to all attendees as part of their delegate fee, is designed to provide further valuable content to the event programme and is sure to do just that!
